A RETIRED teacher saved by a student from Turkmenistan and another passer-by at East China Normal University after falling into a river, has written a letter expressing his gratitude.
Sun Yiyuan, 75, a retired Chinese teacher, was lying on a mat by the Liwa River when he slipped and fell into the river about 6pm. “If it wasn’t for them, I would be dead. I would very much like to say thank-you to them,” wrote Sun. The senior recovered well after being sent to nearby Putuo District Central Hospital. The rescue heroes are Hemayat, a student from Turkmenistan studying at the Public Management School of East China Normal University, and Zhou Yugeng, an engineer with Neusoft. The pair carried out first aid on Sun after bringing him out from the river.
