CCTV NEWS:1st Sino-US university to open 2013 in Shanghai

2012年04月09日

New York University Shanghai, the first Sino-US joint higher education institute, will start to admit undergraduate students next year. China''''s East China Normal University will join hands with NYU to first admit 300 undergraduates in a new campus, located in Shanghai''''s Pudong''''s Lujiazui area.
It''''s a ground breaking step to make Shanghai a global education hub. With 50 percent of the students from China and the other half from overseas, students will have a multi-cultural learning experience. They will spend five semesters in Shanghai and at least three semesters in other cities, including London, New York City, and Abu Dhabi. Mr. Yu Lizhong, president of East China Normal University will lead the new university.
Yu Lizhong, NYU Shanghai President, said, "NYU Shanghai is a pilot move to improve international higher education. To preside over such an institute is a brand new challenge for me. We plan to attract talents and renowned professors from all over the world, to build a high-level, multi-cultural university"

Most of the professors will be regular NYU faculty members who volunteer or agree to spend a few semesters abroad. Classes will be conducted in English, and seven majors will be offered, including finance, natural science, and information technology. Most amazingly, students can learn directly from Nobel laureates.
Moreover, Shanghai will build 10 internship bases for overseas students by 2015 and will subsidize more students from abroad. Operating beyond national boundaries, the university will combine strengths of both schools, with a world class study platform.
