Dr. Bulat Mavlyudov is a senior scientist at the department of glaciologyof the Institute of Geography of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow. Hisexperience is general glaciology, glacier hydrology, glaciospeleology, speleoglaciology, speleology, nature conservation. By education he is geologist of wide profile. His early studies in Trust “Aerogeology” was focused of geology of Pre-Cambrianrocks (1974-1977). In 1977-1979, he worked in Black Sea Experimantal-MethodologicalGroup of All-Union Research Institute of Hydrogeology and Engineering Geologywhere he studying modern geodynamic processes in Caucasus (erosion, abrasion, landslides, mud flows). From 1979, he works in Institute of geography of the Soviet UnionAcademy of Sciences (later Institute of geography of the Russian Academy ofSciences). At the beginning he studies permanent ice in karst caves (caveglaciation, speleoglaciology) in Russian Plain, Ural, Tien-Shan, Caucasus,Pamir. However, after 1990 his interest was additionally connected with glacierhydrology, glaciospeleology. From 2001 he begins to work in Spitsbergen wheremainly study glaciers dynamics, ice mass balance and glacier caves. Theseinvestigations continued up to now. From 2007 he begins to study glaciers onKing George Island, Antarctic (glaciers dynamics, ice mass balance and glaciercaves). These investigations also continued up to now. In 2011-2012 he was thechief of Russian Antarctic Scientific station Bellingshausen. From 2014 he iscoordinator of interregional IAEA Project INT5153 “Climate change and its impact onglacier retreat and land-water-ecosystem quality in polar and mountain regionsacross the world: From assessment to action” (2014-2017). In connection with this project, he studies glaciers inSpitsbergen, King-George Island, China, Peru, Bolivia and Russia. During project,he has collaboration with scientists from Spain, Great Britain, Germany,Austria, Belgium, China, Brazil and Russia. His scientific activity wasinternationally and nationally recognized and honored. Dr. Mavlyudov waselected to be National Representative in the International Speleological Union(UIS); he organizes some international symposia connected with different areasof speleology. He has published over 300 papers in scientific journals(glaciology, speleology, nature conservation), has 2 own monographs (Caveglaciation, 2008, and Internal drainage of glaciers, 2006).
