Library

The library of East China Normal University,with a total area of about 32,000 square meters,was established in October 1951.After several decades of construction and development ,the library has gradually become a research library with excellent collection and services. By the end of 2002, the collection of books in the library has exceeded 3,500,000 volumes. The collection covers both natural and social sciences, particularly rich in Educational sciences, Psychology, geography, economics, classical philosophy, history, literature, reference books as well as Local Chronicles. Currently, the library collects 20,000 of books and 5,000 periodicals each year. In addition, the library also provides teachers and students with a large amount of disc database and online database.

The ECNU Information Center for Social Sciences, of the Ministry of Education, established in 1993, is located in the library and is one of the fifteen information centers for social sciences in Chinese colleges and universities. In 1991,the library became a member of IFLA, and in 1998, it joined OCLC. Now the library enjoys both catalog and book exchanges with about 40,000 libraries around the world.
